Abstract:

Introduction: Insecure attachment styles can have an impact on the future of individuals as one of the most important factors in the initial creation of maladaptive schemes, especially in prisoners with personality disorders. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Attachment Styles and Early Maladaptive Schemas in Hamadan Central Prison in 2017. Material and Methods: The  sample ,in this study, included  110 prisoners with borderline personality disorder at the central prison of Hamadan in 2017. The patients were previously diagnosed with psychological and psychoanalysis by a clinical interview and Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI_III). The Yang Scheme (Short Term) and then the Revised Adult Attachment Scale were applied and the data were analyzed using Pearson Correlation method. Results: The most promising early maladaptive suggestions were mistrust / mistreatment (25), violation and shame (24), abandonment (23), inadequate self-discipline (21) and emotional deprivation (19), respectively. The mean of attachment scores was 11, avoidance 12 and ambivalent 15.5 and there was a significant inverse correlation between the early maladaptive scheme and safe attachment style (r = 0.75), and there was a positive and significant correlation between early maladaptive scheme and ambivalent attachment style (r=0.94). Discussion and Conclusion: Prisoners with borderline personality disorder who had Ambivalent attachment style had more and those with secure attachment had less maladaptive schemas.
